Ndindi Nyoro Quits UDA, Joins People’s Party of Kenya Ahead of 2027

Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has announced his departure from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and joined the People's Party of Kenya (PPK), marking a major shift in his political alignment ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Nyoro announced that he and his supporters had joined the People's Party of Kenya, signalling his move away from the ruling party and towards a new political formation as preparations for the next election gather momentum.

The Kiharu lawmaker said his decision reflected a new political direction and indicated that he had already distanced himself from UDA and the government before making his departure public.

Nyoro has in recent months expressed growing criticism of the government's record, including concerns over the administration's handling of the country's affairs and its failure to deliver on some of the promises made to Kenyans. His latest move follows that increasingly critical stance.

The legislator has also said he intends to work with like-minded leaders across the political divide to help shape what he describes as a new path for the country, signalling his willingness to engage beyond his previous political alliance.

Nyoro's exit is significant given his previous close association with President William Ruto's political camp. His departure is therefore expected to attract particular attention in Mt Kenya, where political leaders and parties are seeking to consolidate support ahead of the 2027 polls.

The move comes as Kenya's political landscape undergoes a series of realignments, with the ruling UDA working with ODM under the broad-based government while opposition formations seek to build a wider political coalition.
