Murkomen Questions Linda Mwananchi Over Claims of Planned Violence in Homa Bay

Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has questioned the decision by the Linda Mwananchi movement to proceed with political activities in Homa Bay despite claims by its leaders that they had prior information about possible violence.

Speaking on the recent attacks that disrupted the movement's tour of Homa Bay County, Murkomen appeared to challenge the group's leaders over why they went ahead with the planned events despite raising concerns about the possible presence of organised groups.

Questioning the decision, Murkomen asked: “Ukijua Homa Bay kuna goons, why are you going there?”

His remarks came after Linda Mwananchi leaders claimed they had received information about plans to disrupt their political activities in the county and had raised concerns with security agencies before the events.

The Homa Bay tour later turned violent, with several people reportedly injured, including journalists, while vehicles and other property were damaged.

The attacks sparked widespread concern and renewed debate over political violence and the safety of leaders, supporters and journalists during public gatherings as the country moves towards the 2027 General Election.

Murkomen's remarks have added another dimension to the debate surrounding the Homa Bay attacks, particularly regarding the responsibility of political organisers and security agencies in preventing violence.

The Interior CS has maintained that security agencies have a duty to ensure that all Kenyans can participate in lawful political activities regardless of their political affiliation. As police continue investigating the Homa Bay violence, the incident has renewed calls for decisive action against those responsible and for stronger measures to prevent politically motivated attacks ahead of the 2027 General Election.
