Malkia Strikers Settle for Second as Egypt Claim African Volleyball Crown

Kenya’s Malkia Strikers have finished second at the 2026 CAVB Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship after losing 3-0 to Egypt in the final at the Kasarani Indoor Arena.

Egypt controlled the contest after a closely fought opening set, winning 25-22, 25-15 and 25-15 to deny the hosts the opportunity to retain the continental title on home soil.

Malkia Strikers started the final strongly and pushed Egypt throughout the opening set, but the North Africans held their nerve to edge it 25-22.

Egypt then took control of the match, using their momentum to win the second set 25-15 before closing out the championship with another 25-15 victory in the third.

The defeat brings Kenya’s title defence to an end, with the Malkia Strikers taking the silver medal after reaching the final in front of their home supporters.

Kenya reached the championship match after sweeping Cameroon 3-0 in the semifinals, following a 3-1 comeback victory over Algeria in the quarterfinals.

For Egypt, the result caps a successful campaign and hands them the African title after their victory over the defending champions.

Despite missing out on the trophy, Malkia Strikers can take pride in finishing among the continent’s top two teams after a strong run through the tournament.

The victory strengthens Egypt’s position in their long-standing rivalry with Kenya, while the Malkia Strikers will now turn their attention to regrouping and preparing for their next international assignment.
