Flight Delays Hit Kenyan Airports as Aviation Workers Strike

Passengers travelling through Kenyan airports are facing significant delays as a strike by aviation workers disrupts flight operations across the country.

The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has issued an advisory warning passengers of delays affecting some departing flights and urged travellers to check with their respective airlines for the latest information before heading to the airport.

At Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), several flights have been delayed, with national carrier Kenya Airways warning passengers to expect disruptions of between two and three hours due to operational challenges affecting air traffic control services.

The disruptions followed a strike by aviation workers over unresolved labour grievances, affecting key institutions in the aviation sector, including the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) and the Kenya Airports Authority. Airlines, including Jambojet, have also experienced operational interruptions as a result of the disruption.

Hundreds of passengers have reportedly been left stranded as airlines delayed or rescheduled flights, causing frustration among travellers with tight schedules and connecting flights.

Kenya Airways said it was working with aviation authorities and other stakeholders to minimise the impact of the disruptions while maintaining safe and orderly flight operations.

The strike has raised fresh concerns about the impact of labour disputes on Kenya's aviation sector, particularly at JKIA, the country's busiest airport and a major regional aviation hub.

Travellers have been advised to contact their airlines directly for updates on flight schedules before travelling to the airport.

With no immediate resolution to the labour dispute announced, passengers remain uncertain about when normal flight schedules will resume as efforts continue to restore smooth operations across the country's airports.
