17 Arrested After Violence Erupts During Linda Mwananchi Activities in Homa Bay

Police in Homa Bay County have arrested 17 suspects in connection with violent incidents that disrupted political activities organised by the Linda Mwananchi movement.

The arrests followed clashes and acts of violence reported in the county on a day when Linda Mwananchi politicians had planned to hold a series of political meetings in the area.

Several properties were reportedly damaged during the unrest, adding to tensions surrounding the political activities. Police intervened as the situation escalated.

Two journalists covering the events were also reportedly injured, while their equipment was allegedly stolen during the chaos.

The incidents have raised concerns over the safety of journalists and other members of the public covering political activities, particularly as political mobilisation intensifies ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Leaders associated with Linda Mwananchi condemned the violence and called for investigations into the incidents, while urging authorities to ensure that political gatherings can take place peacefully.

The 17 arrests are expected to facilitate investigations into the reported violence, property damage and alleged theft of journalists' equipment.
